A shared recess-mounted sensor for light and presence gives a luminaire more intelligence with little cost and effort: Based on passive infrared technology (PIR), the sensor detects heat source changes and therefore detects the presence of an object. In accordance with the natural quantity of light in the room, the light sources automatically switch on as required, with the required luminance and over a definable period of time. The light value and the switch-off delay are easily set using the two potentiometers on the back of the sensor.
